In 2001 she decided to take her skills to another level and started an all-female sound system crew called, "Sistren Soundsation". Eventually her Sound evolved and is now known as, "Rebel Dawtas".
As one of the few Soundwomen in the world, Rebel Dawta Donna Rootsie has had a unique path. She has been under the tutelage of Soundmen giants like Sir Coxson Dodd, Downbeat The Ruler, The one and only Jahlife, The Great Jahwise, Jack Scorpio , Mr. Harper of Killamanjaro, just to name a few. In the year 2011, Dawta Rootsie along with her Rebel Dawtas crew won the title of, "Who Rules" one of the few all-female Sound Clashes ever to be held world wide. Rebel Dawtas who was the only sound that played vinyl for the night, slaughtered female sounds from Canada, Antigua and NYC with Rootsie's one of a kind Dubplates and killer speech. |
Rebel Dawta Rootsie has also created a name for herself in Jamaica WI. She leads a bi-coastal life and has played for numerous events on the island like, Rebel Salute, Vibz Cartel Bday Bash, Hot Mondays, and Dub Club just to name a few. In addition she was a permanent disc jockey on the radio station BESS FM for 1 year.
Dawta Rootsie has been a Reggae party promoter for over 20 years. She has held numerous dances in NY as well as Jamaica, and even promoted the first NYC Culture Sound Clash. Rebel Rootsie is a major supporter of female selectahs and is the creator of, "Royal SoundWoman Roadblock", an annual dance that featured female selectres's from all over the world.
Dawta Rootsie has held her own as a woman in the Reggae music industry. She feels very blessed to be the latest addition to Global Medz Radio. Rootsie has a serious catalog of music and serious links with icons /veterans in the Reggae world.
